A pilates programme on the High Chair will improve knee function. In order to know how to help your knees we need to understand how our knees work. The primary function of this hinge joint is flexion and extension and it relies on the ligaments and muscles around it for its stability. If there is an imbalance it will affect your knee function. Posterior and Anterior stability is provided by the ligaments. If the knee is twisted or hit from an angle it can become very vulnerable. There are four muscles that support the knee: Hamstring, hip abductor and adductor, quadriceps, external rotator, and lower leg muscles. When all this muscles work in harmony the knee will stay healthy and pain free for a lifetime. The High Chair (as seen on the picture) has two springs that can be set in different positions creating a stronger or lower resistance. The knee can be placed against the wooden wall to stabilize it and the other foot is standing on the pedal. The stronger the spring the easier to lift the pedal. Many other exercises for knee problems can be performed on this amazing piece of equipment!
