PILATES FOR SCIATICA
The longest nerve in the body is the sciatic nerve. Starting from the spinal cord it runs through the buttocks all the way down to the sole of your foot. Sciatica is a pain caused by inflammation or irritation of this particular nerve. 10% of the population suffer from this condition mostly between the age of 25 to 45 often caused by repetitive movements, poor posture, spinal disc issues or a pinched nerve. Common symptoms of sciatica are pain in the lower back, buttocks and all the way down the legs and numbness of feet and legs. Sitting for long periods of time can increase the pain.
Pilates can be a non-invasive option for sciatic pain and at The Authentic Pilates Studio Marbella we have specific workouts using equipment to release compression and strengthen your spinal and core muscles, combined with stretches to improve this condition.
